About Me

Name:
Penny (hello all the terrible cash jokes and Big Bang Theory references)

Stolen from my Twitter account.

Where are you from:
Originally SE Michigan, USA, but currently in Vermont, USA

But you’re an American, how did you find out about Eurovision?
I’d heard a few ESC entries outside the Eurovision context, e.g. “The Voice” from a Celtic Woman cover, and ABBA’s “Waterloo”. It wasn’t until 2010 when I went to Germany for a summer student exchange program during World Cup season and heard “Schland o Schland,” which according to one of the host teachers was a “parody of a German song that had won a major contest a few weeks ago.” Fast forward a few more weeks and I was online looking up distractions to quit thinking about an ex-refrigerator. One click went Humon’s Scandinavia and the World, and the next click landed on Alexander Rybak’s “Fairytale”. The rest is history!

How long have you been a fan?
Since summer 2010. 2011 was my first full contest.

Favorite entry of all time?
“My Star” by Brainstorm (Latvia 2000) and “Fairytale” by Alexander Rybak (Norway 2009)

Favorite entry of 2017?
“Origo” by Joci Pápai (Hungary) closely followed by “Grab the Moment” by JOWST ft. Aleksander Walmann (Norway)

Favorite national final?
Finland’s Uuden Musiiken Kilpailu and Sweden’s Melodifestivalen. Eesti Laul is nice too.

Why “Barfuss-Evrovizija”?
I wanted to name the site “Barefoot Eurovision” because I don’t like wearing shoes, but because some ESC entries have questionable lyrics seemingly written by Google Translate, I decided to also go the Google Translate route.  Also because I didn’t want certain family members to find out about the page, so I went with the name that was harder to spell.

However, just because I don’t like wearing shoes doesn’t mean I don’t like the Herreys’ golden shoes.

What do you do outside the ESC world?
I’m currently a pharmacy student, so I have no life. I stress-cook, binge a lot of tea, listen and sing along to musicals (I blame Book of Mormon musical), and avoid studying. I also run a Facebook page for a 2’8”/81 cm skeleton.

Skeleton watches skeletons. Also stolen from my Twitter.

Where am I online if not here?
Probably on Twitter @lantispitfire
