2016 Review: Czech Republic
Czech Republic (or possibly soon to be “Czechia”, not to be confused with “Chechnya”) has decided that hope never dies, and that one day they’ll make it out of the semi-finals. This year ČT selected artist Gabriela Gunčíková, who previously toured with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, with the song “I Stand.”
So the song is called “I Stand,” except she spends most of the video lying down. If she’s sitting down during the entire performance, I’m going to laugh from the irony. “I Stand” has a hint of vibes from the refrain of Ella Henderson’s “Ghost” just to make sure that there’s a subtle yet countable beat, but it’s hard to pick up if I don’t put in energy to focus on the entry. While yes it’s a nice entry, it’s something that my dentist would enjoy more than I would. On the other hand, I don’t think it would be audible on top of dental drills. Also, since it’s so relaxing, they wouldn’t want their patients falling asleep, only to be woken up by getting stabbed in the gums with a dental explorer.
On a completely different note, one of the co-composers of the song is Christian Schneider, who may or may not have written the Gummibär song. It’s kind of funny hearing the two next to each other…
